This time I went back to ancestry.com to search for Jeffrey Pritchett instead of Inge. I looked through Pittsylvania County but once again I did not find a Jeffrey Pritchett anywhere. I decided to expand my search. This time I put Jeffrey Pritchett born in Virginia into my search and I came across a Jeffrey Pritchett in the 1870 and 1880 census. This guy was living in Sallacoa, Cherokee, Georgia with his wife Sallie. He was born around 1815, which is pretty close in age with Rosena Inge who was born around 1820. I had a gut feeling that this Jeffrey Pritchett was the man who fathered Rosena's children in Pittsylvania County. The problem was trying to prove that this Jeffrey resided in Pittsylvania County.
I took a closer look at the 1870 census for Jeffrey and Sallie. Looking on the sheet I noticed several Pritchetts born in Virginia but now residing in Cherokee County, Georgia.
I believe Jeffrey was a slave for Robert Pritchett and was passed down to his son Frank Alexander Pritchett. Between 1850 and 1860 Frank migrated to Cherokee County, Georgia. He took his family, including his slaves with him. I believe this move had something to do with the Civil War. It is now my goal to search wills to try to find Jeffrey listed. I do not know whether Jeffrey was married to Rosena at some point. I do know that he is listed as the father of her children. It must have been difficult for Rosena when Jeffrey was forced to move down South with his slave master.
