One thing about my uncle Anthony, he LOVED going to funerals. He and my grandmother were always off to sister so-in-so's or brother so-in-so's funeral. I'm not even sure if they knew the people whose funeral they attended!
I looked through the book to discover that my uncle kept each program in sheet protectors and kept them in chronological order! The first obituary was dated 1969 and they range on up until a few days before he died in March 2003. He collected almost 200 programs of local African Americans of Danville. My uncle's collection has inspired me to do the same. Normally when I attend a funeral I keep the program for a few days or just give it to my mother. My plan is to start my own collection and combine it with my mom's obituary program collection. I want to place them in sheet protectors so we can keep them preserved.
