Aquilla Inge Lee
Mrs. Aquilla Marie Inge Lee, 86, Of 310 Clarkson Dr., departed this life at SOVAH Health on Dec., 21, 2017. She was born Sept. 21, 1931 in Danville, a daughter of the late Samuel Felix Inge and Kathleen B. Pritchett Inge.
She was retired from Health Tex, Inc. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and served as Church Mother of Bread Of Life Ministry, which is pastored by her son, Pastor Rodney J. Lee.
She is preceded in death by a son, Henry C. Lee III, 2 sisters and one brother. Survivors include two sons, Pastor Rodney J. Lee(Norma) Of Danville, VA and Carlton Randall Lee(Deborah) Of St. Louis, Missouri. A special daughter, Valencia Hawkins of Washington, DC; grandchildren, great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Family Hour will be held on Thurs., Dec.28, 2017 from 5pm-7pm with the family present from 6-7 at D.L. McLaughlin Funeral Home Chapel, 4960 Riverside Dr., Danville, VA
The Celebration of Life will take place on Fri., Dec. 29, 2017 at Noon from Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. John Anderson, presiding and former pastor of Trinity, Rev. Brandon Smith as eulogist. Burial will follow at the Pritchett Family Cemetery, Cascade, VA

George Thomas Logan, Jr.
George Thomas Logan Jr, 65, of 5561 Old Richmond Road, Danville, Virginia, died Saturday, December 10, 2016 in Danville, Virginia.
Born June 29, 1951 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, he was the son of the late George Thomas Logan, Sr. and Rosetta Terry Logan, he was married to Margaret Woods Logan, who survives.
In addition to his wife survivors include two daughters, LeRanda Walker of Cascade, VA and Kathlene Logan of Danville, VA; one son, Thurman Logan of Cascade, VA; one step daughter Nicole Pritchett of Danville, VA; one step son, Marcus Pritchett of Danville, VA; one granddaughter, Alishia Chappell of Cascade, VA; three grandsons, KeVon Logan-Stamps (Alexis) of Ringgold, VA, TaShaan Logan and TaQuan Walker both of Cascade, VA; one great-grandchild, Gavin Stamps of Ringgold, VA; three step granddaughters, Jy’nia Pritchett, Zy’nae Pritchett and Andrea Pritchett all of Danville, VA; two step grandsons, Kameron Pritchett and Landon Pritchett both of Danville, VA; five sisters, Rosa Minter and Elizabeth King both of Danville, VA, Lizzie Jones of Chatham, VA, Carolyn Logan of Tampa, FL and Elsie Oubre of Districts Heights, MD; two brothers, William Logan of Cascade, VA, John Logan of Newport News, VA and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by one brother, Elmus Terry.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Funeral service will be conducted on Friday, December 16, 2016 at one o’clock in the afternoon from the Chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with Rev. Jonathan King, eulogist. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Family visitation will be held on Thursday, December, 15, 2016 from 6- 8pm at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home.
Louise Jean Tarpley
Mrs. Louise Jean Tarpley, 63, of Martinsville, Va. departed this life on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at her home. She was born in Pittsylvania County, Va. on April 10, 1953, a daughter of the late Willie and Annie Martin Pritchett. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one daughter, Samantha Saunders.
She was a self employed private duty nurse.
Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Tammy Tarpley, of Collinsville, Va.; one son, Lenward Tarpley, of District Heights, Md.; six sisters, Geneva Martin and Jewel Pritchett, both of Martinsville, Va.; Shirley Hash and Cherrion Gravely, both of Axton, Va.; Bernice Thomas, of Landover, Md.; and Joan Estes, of Salem, Va.; five brothers, Ronnie and John Pritchett, of Martinsville, Va., Ricky Pritchett, of Butner, N.C., James Pritchett, of Independence, Va. and Steven Pritchett, of Axton, Va.; and two grandchildren.
Clifford A. Mitchell
Clifford Andrew Mitchell, of Plymouth (Macedonia), NC, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at his residence. He was 82 years old. On June 30, 1934 he brightened the lives of his parents-mother Alonia Holman and his father James Mitchell, Sr., both of whom preceded him in death. He attended school in Martinsville, VA.
Being adventurous, he relocated to Plymouth, NC in the community of Macedonia in 1962. Clifford quickly adjusted to his new community and became well known for making a positive difference. It was here where he and his loving wife, Mary Downing Mitchell, built their life around family and friends.
Macedonia A.M.E. Zion Church was the place where Clifford grew spiritually and served faithfully until his health dictated otherwise. He began his servanthood in 1962 where he extended his hand to help in whatever capacity needed. During his membership, he officially served as a Preacher Stewart and church treasurer.
Clifford was a man that held high work ethics and was a dedicated Supervisor at Weyerhaeuser Lumber Company in Plymouth, NC until his retirement. After which, he entertained himself with his hobbies of fishing, traveling to find all of the great places to eat, and his love for cutting grass. Clifford remained active at all times and had the opportunity to perform meaningful community service of the Rising Moon Lodge #59.
Loved ones preceding him in death include his loving wife, Mary Downing Mitchell and his brother, James Mitchell, Jr. (Baby James). He leaves to cherish his memories his step daughter Annie Knox, Plymouth, NC; one sister Charlene Manning, Columbia, SC; one aunt, Leonia Pritchett Williams, Cascade, VA; a granddaughter, Monique Knox, Plymouth, NC; one brother-in-law, Monnie Downing, Plymouth, NC; one sister-in-law, Pauline Bowles, Jamesvillt, NC; a special friend whom he mentioned, Joey Chesson, Plymouth, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bertha M. Pritchett
Bertha M. Pritchett, 77, of Whisperwood Court, Apt. B, Greensboro, N.C., died on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro, N.C.
Born October 31, 1937, in Martinsville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Zular and Eliza Dillard Pritchett.
Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Pritchett of Greensboro, N.C.; two siblings, Margaret Via and Benjamin Pritchett, both of Martinsville, Va.; three grandchildren, Ryan Bendesky, Chaz Bendesky and Bria Bendesky; and a host of other relatives and friends.
James Monroe Carter
James Monroe Carter, 57, of Axton, Va., transitioned to his Heavenly home on October 1, 2015. He was born in Axton on February 16, 1958, to the late Ervin and Juanita Pritchett. Monroe "Mon" had received his Associates Degree in Business Management and was a self-employed contractor and mechanic by trade.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ervin and Nathan Carter; three nephews, Silas and Lamont Carter, and Corey Brandon; and a niece, Shanta J. Carter.
Surviving are his two daughters, Charleta Giggetts of Danville, and Montashia Carter of Martinsville; three sisters, Margie, Barbara and Lori Carter, all of Martinsville; one brother, Anthony (Teresa) Carter of Fort Dix, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Herbert Hoover Turner
Herbert Hoover Turner, 85, of Martinsville, died Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. He was born in Henry County on March 2, 1929, to the late Tom Willie Tuner and Roberta Hairston Turner. He was retired from the Martinsville City School System where he worked at Albert Harris School as a janitor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Pritchett Turner; daughter Bertha Jean Turner; four sisters, Tisha Mae Turner, Louise T. Wingfield, Rosetta T. Dalton and Lucille Turner; and seven brothers, Otis Turner, John Henry Turner, Tom Willie Turner, Roosevelt Turner, Jessie Turner and Joe Harry Turner.
Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn Miller and husband, Michael, Patricia Gravely and husband, Ronald, Janice McKinney and husband, Harvey, and JoAnn Turner; one son, Ronnie Turner; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Janice T. McKinney
Janice Marie Turner McKinney, 52, of 921 Independence Drive, Martinsville, Va. departed this life on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, at her home. She was born in Henry County on September 8, 1962, a daughter of the late Herbert and Dorothy Pritchett Turner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Parish V. McKinney; and one sister, Bertha Turner.
She was formerly employed at Sara Lee Knitwear and was a member of Bethel United Way of the Cross Church.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Harry McKinney of the home; three daughters, Karema McKinney and My’Yani and Ebonee Turner, all of Martinsville, Va.; one son, Javarus Faulkner, of Collinsville, Va.; three sisters, Joann Turner, Patricia T. Gravely, and Carolyn Millner, all of Martinsville, Va.; and one brother, Ronnie Turner, of Martinsville, Va.
Christine Herdt Pritchett
Christine Sue Herdt Pritchett, 49, of Bassett Heights Extension, died Monday, September 29, 2014, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Kimball, Nebraska, January 29, 1965, to Arlene Galindo and the late Harold J. C. Herdt.
She was a graduate of Martinsville High School and attended Patrick Henry Community College. She was a security officer for Hanes Brand.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Pritchett.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Pritchett was survived by two daughters, Dominique Herdt and Brittney Herdt of Phoenix, Arizona; a sister, Tracy Miles of Henry, Virginia; a brother, Jacque Hightower of Bryers Road, Maryland; and one grandchild, Peyton Walker.
Julius Keon Giggetts
Julius Keon Giggetts, 32, of 538 Stoney Mountain Road, Martinsville, Va., passed away in Martinsville, Sunday, October 12, 2014.
He was born in Roanoke, Va., January 25, 1982, to Brenda Giggetts and Jesse Carter.
Julius is survived by three sons: Julius Ezra Giggetts of Winston-Salem, N.C., Jeshua Giggetts and Jermiah Giggetts both of Martinsville, Va.; mother, Brenda Giggetts and father, Jesse Carter; five sisters: Shawnte Gamble of Fayetteville, N.C., Latorya Giggetts, Charleta Giggetts, Letoya Hodge, and Mercedes Fitzgerald all of Martinsville, Va.; four brothers: Wendall Fitzgerald of Martinsville, Va., Ronte Gamble of Greensboro, N.C., Xavier Wilson, of Richmond,Va. and Ladarius Carter of Chatham, Va.
Charles Anthony “Junior” Turner
Charles Anthony Turner, age 42, of Martinsville, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at his home.
He was born March 27, 1972, in Martinsville, Va., to Rufus Cobbs and Joann Turner.
He had previously worked at Tultex.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rufus Cobbs.
He is survived by his mother, Joann Turner; two sons, Anthony Eggleston of Sussex, Va. and Dikarius Wells of Martinsville; two sisters, Annette Monroe Cobbs of Eden, N.C. and Patricia Cobbs of Eden, N.C.; three brothers, Steven Turner of West Virginia, Chris Cobbs of Eden, N.C., and Tony Cobbs of Eden, N.C.; and a grandson, Kaleb.
Tamika L. Preston
Tamika L. Preston, age 41, of 503 Armstead Ave., Martinsville, Va., passed away,Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at her residence.
She was born in Martinsville, Va., on September 25, 1973, to Thelma Preston Flood and Edward Junior Thomas. She was preceded in death by a sister Nierae Thomas.
Tamika, is survived by her mother, Thelma Preston Flood; her father, Edward Junior Thomas; one daughter, Ebonie M. Preston, all of Martinsville, Va.; two sisters; Stephanie Preston of Greensboro, N.C.. and Laniqua Smith of Ridgeway, Va.; two brothers: Demetrius Preston of Martinsville, Va. and Draizen Thomas of Ridgeway, Va.; one grandson Nyseir Longmire, of Martinsville, Va.; maternal grandparents, grandmother, Bernice Millner; grandfather, Otis Carter; step-grandfather Marvin Millner; paternal grandparents, grandmother Eva Bell Witcher-Thomas; grand-father, William Flossie Thomas.
She was a member of Reachout Apostolic Church and was employed at Glitz and Glam as a beautician for 25 years.
James E. Pritchett
James Edward Pritchett, 89, of 452 Cascade Road, Cascade, VA, died, Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Morehead Memorial Hospital, Eden, NC.
Born December 25, 1925 in Pittsylvania County, VA, he was the son of the late Lynwood and Lizzie Carter Pritchett. He was married to the late Zelpha Huffman Pritchett.
He was a Veteran of the United States Navy.
Survivors include six daughters, Brenda Martin, Nancy Word, Betty Durham and Lillie Pritchett all of Cascade, VA; Darlene Pritchett of Martinsville, VA and Shirley Logan of Danville, VA; three sons, John Pritchett of Cascade, VA; James Pritchett and Marvin Pritchett, both of Martinsville, VA; two sisters, Cassie Carter and Martha Lynch, both of Martinsville, VA; one brother, Marvin Pritchett of Martinsville, VA and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by four sisters, Shirley Wade, Marie Turner, Mildred Moore and Dorothy Turner; three brothers, Joe Pritchett, George Pritchett and Sonny Pritchett.
Carolyn Williams, 52, of 1312 West Fork Road, Cascade, Va., departed this life on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Va.
She was born in Pittsylvania County, Va., on October 30, 1962, to Leonia Pritchett Williams and the late Willie Williams. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Williams and Gyrlie Terry.
She was a graduate of Tunstall High School and attended Patrick Henry County College. Carolyn was employed at Hanes Brand where she was a training coordinator and was a member of Bethel United Way of the Cross Church where she served on the Usher Board.
Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Leonia Williams of the home; two sons, Justin M. and Ryan O. Williams, both of Cascade, Va.; two granddaughters, London and Olivia Williams, both of Collinsville, Va.; four sisters, Maggie Williams, of Cascade, Va.; Julia Goolsby, of Walnut Cove, N.C.; Shelia Mitchell, of Martinsville, Va.; and Tammy Devins, of Axton, Va.; six brothers, Calvin Williams and Ronnie Williams, both of Axton, Va.; Eric Williams, of Reidsville, N.C., Clifton Williams, Herman Martin and Barry Peatross, all of Cascade, Va.
Curtis Daniel “Duke” Pritchett, Sr.
Curtis Daniel (Duke) Pritchett, Sr., 55, of 588 Tommy Carter Road, Axton, Va., passed away Sunday, March 15th, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Curtis was born in Henry County, Va., on August 16, 1959, a son of Cora Lee (Martin) Pritchett and the late George D. Pritchett.
He was a member of Bethel Way of the Cross Church and later joined Mercy Crossing Church. He served in the U.S. Marines for four years after graduating from Laurel Park High School class of 1977. He is survived by his mother Cora and Roy Martin of the home; three sons, Curtis D. Pritchett, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., Monte Tequail Pritchett, and Philip Pritchett, both of Martinsville; two brothers, Warren Lee Pritchett, of Ridgeway, and Dennis J. (Melinda) Pritchett, of Martinsville, Va. He is also survived by three grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
